Gemstone of the month is—Prehnite—the first mineral to hold the distinction of being named after an individual! Although this gemstone has a long history, it was discovered at the Cape of Good Hope by Dutch military commander and mineralogist Colonel Hendrik von Prehn in 1774 and subsequently classified and given formal recognition in mineralogical literature in the late 1700s.
