Fern is found worldwide, and has the greatest diversity of species in tropical rainforests. This plant has wide variety of habitats, from remote mountain elevations, to dry desert rock faces. The magical and medicinal uses of fern date to Ancient Greece. Native Americans also used the native ferns in their magic and medicine.

Use fern in sachets for protection, luck, riches, youth, and health. Powdered and burned as incense, this herb is used for rain making, protection, luck, and exorcism. One may sprinkle crushed fern leaves along the windows and doors to protect the home from burglars and other unwanted intruders. Fern carried in a black bag is said to bring invisibility from prying eyes.
