Eshu The Divine Trickster God of the Yoruba

Eshu is the Yoruba trickster god who serves as the messenger between the Orishas and humanity, lingering in doorways and near crossroads. He is responsible for humans learning the secrets of divination in one myth stealing the secrets from Ifa, the chief Orisha. Eshu delivers prayer and sacrifice to the heavens, protects travelers, and brings about misfortune to those who need to learn deeper wisdoms. Shrines to Eshu are traditionally placed by the front door to a house where offerings can be made to appease this trickster and seek his aid.
