La Santa Muerte (The Holy Death) also called La Santísima Muerte (The Most Holy Death), is a folk saint in the Mexican Catholic tradition that can be traced back to Aztec worship combined with early Spanish conquistadors. Devotees of Santa Muerte leave offerings of apples, flowers, cigars, and white or black candles. She is often said to be able to lift curses, perform miracles, bring prosperity, heal ailments, and assist in job seeking. Santa Muerte is often worshipped by members of the LGBT community as well as other marginalized groups.
