Beginners Guide to Getting Stoned... I mean Stones! (Malachite)

Malachite is a fusion of two gems, Lapis Lazuli and Jasper. As a fusion, Malachite has an increased power level and unique abilities that neither Lapis nor Jasper have alone....

Oh, wait, that is the tough antagonist character from Steven Universe, not the gemstone featured in this blog. My bad.

Sorry, let's try again...

Malachite is a gemstone that is made of green copper carbonate mineral and often used as an ore of copper. Green stone malachite has an opaque transparency and sometimes patterned surface. Malachite is a rich shade of green and its meaning is transformation and positive change.
As a matter of fact, Malachite is known as the Stone of Transformation.

While the character is transformed from two others, this gemstone is much nicer than the character if you ask me. Unlike the character, who is an antagonist in the series, the stone is considered the essence of joy. It is believed to help reveal and heal emotional pain by absorbing the pain onto itself. It is also believed bring ease at times of change as well as giving the insight needed for personal growth.

In addition, Malachite is believed to clear and activate the chakras and attune one for spiritual guidance. It opens the heart to unconditional love. Encourages risk-taking and change, breaks unwanted ties and outworn patterns, and teaches how to take responsibility for one's actions, thoughts and feelings.

The gemstone also isn't nearly as hard as the character either, with a Mohs hardness of only 3.5-4 as opposed to the character antagonist rating of 7-8. Because of this, it is a softer stone and to be treated with some care. It is not recommended that you leave this stone in water as it will cause it to become brittle and break.

And who would want to break such a pretty stone?

Not me!

I would much rather wear it. After all, the beautiful colors and textures in this gemstone make Malachite a desirable stone to possess. It can be found worldwide from the Congo, Gabon, Zambia, Namibia, Mexico, Australia, to the largest deposit/mine in the Urals region, Russia and has been used by many cultures as pigments, decorations, and jewelry. Even the Egyptians as far back as early 4000BCE the mined Malachite and used it as a gemstone and for ornamental purposes.
